National Day Festival
The term "National Day" originally refers to a national celebration, which was first seen in the Western Jin Dynasty. Lu Ji, a writer of the Western Jin Dynasty, once recorded in the article "On the Five Classes of Princes" that "the National Day alone enjoys its own benefits, and the main worry does not cause harm". In the feudal era of our country, the major events of the country's festivities are no greater than the emperor's ascension to the throne and his birthday. .Therefore, in ancient my country, the emperor's accession to the throne and his birthday were called "National Day". Today the anniversary of the founding of the nation is called National Day.
On December 2, 1949, the Fourth Session of the Central People's Government Committee accepted the suggestion of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and passed the "Resolution on the National Day of the People's Republic of China", and decided that October 1 every year would be the great day of the proclamation of the People's Republic of China. It is the National Day of the People's Republic of China.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China on October 1, 1949, the way of celebrating the National Day has changed several times.
In the early days of the founding of New China (1950-1959), large-scale celebrations and military parades were held on National Day every year. In September 1960, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council decided to reform the National Day system in line with the policy of building a country with diligence and thrift. Since then, from 1960 to 1970, every year on National Day, grand rallies and mass parades were held in front of Tiananmen Square, but no military parade was held.
From 1971 to 1983, every October 1st, Beijing celebrated the National Day with a large-scale garden party and other forms, without mass parades. In 1984, the 35th anniversary of the National Day, a grand National Day military parade and mass celebration parade were held. In the following ten years, the National Day was celebrated in other forms, and the National Day military parade and mass celebration parade were no longer held. On October 1, 1999, the 50th anniversary of the National Day, a grand National Day military parade and mass celebration parade were held. This was the last grand National Day celebration of the People's Republic of China in the 20th century.
Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, there have been 15 military parades in National Day celebrations. They were 11 times between 1949 and 1959, and four times during the 35th anniversary of National Day in 1984, the 50th anniversary of National Day in 1999, the 60th anniversary of National Day in 2009, and the 70th anniversary of National Day in 2019.
